BORN FREE

Here there be Tygers. The zoological portion of our soirée if you will. A sort of National Graphic edition for your locks.
Here you will find snakes, bats, rats, elephants (of the non pink variety) tigers, lions, and of course cows, sheep, goats, horses and an entire menagerie of other assorted domestic and non domestic animals.
If it flaps, flops, slithers, gallops, lopes, slides, ambles or just walks, if it neighs, moos, bleats, whinnies, trumpets, roars, hisses, chirps or remains quiet due to the lack of a voice box (ahem, Madame giraffe) odds are you will find it here…

Giraffes are the world's tallest mammals, thanks to their towering legs and long necks. A giraffe's legs alone are taller than many humans—about 6 feet (1.8 meters). These long legs allow giraffes to run as fast as 35 miles (56 kilometers) an hour over short distances and cruise comfortably at 10 miles (16 kilometers) an hour over longer distances.

"How helpless we are, like netted birds, when we are caught by desire!"

This sweet songbird has stopped for a brief rest on this purple headband. Snuggled into a soft brown marabou feather she is a total show stopper.

This little gal is so tweet! Sassy bold colors she sits on a tuft of electric yellow Marabou feather.

GROUPIE GIRL

I first snuck into the Cat Club when I was all of 14 to see a live band play. The band was called Melidian and my mind was forever blown. Rock and Roll became a huge part of my life on that fateful eve. Hair bands were my music of choice and I flew my flag high.
These clips and barrettes are for those of you who love the music of yore as much as I do.
Wear your music style loud and proud. Stand strong for your band! Viva Le Rock! (thank you Adam Ant)

The Dolls. Who doesn't love the New York Dolls? This one is a vintage Dolls pin on a black glam marabou feather atop a magenta zebra ribbon. TRES glam...

VERY hard to photograph but the ribbon is this neon green (or what we used to just call Poison Green) grosgrain ribbon. The pin is vintage Poison from their first album "Look what the cat dragged in". To add to the glam-ness I gave the boys a hot pink rhinestone each.

First arena concert I ever went to was Aerosmith. I worked up the nerve to invite my crush to go with us. He agreed and in my twisted brain it was a pseudo date. Imagine how insanely crushed I was when his girlfriend picked him up at the end of the night...
Still love Aerosmith though. I've mounted this vintage "Permanent Vacation" era pin onto a nice red rose.

LA CUCARACHAS

Growing up in NYC, I developed an affection, okay maybe that’s a little strong. I developed a respect or a nostalgia for these indestructible critters. When folks think of NYC they think of yellow cabs, the Empire State, Dirty Water Dogs, Pigeons and Cockroaches. These clips are a salute to at least one of the iconic symbols of my home town.
I should note that these gals are NOT real. They are rubber and being the little fashion divas that they are their ribbons match their rhinestones!

ARMY TOYS

I think it was the Dead Milkmen who sang "Wonderful colored Army toys" and boy howdy are they ever!
Those 1950's style plastic green Army men you used to play with have taken on a new life with these barrettes.
Of course I left a few "Au Natural" but the rest of the boys are fab-u-lous!
Some I've dusted in glitter and laid them on a bed of oh so soft marabou feathers (saluting the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell Policy") and some have taken a swim in some knock your socks of 80's style neon paint.(Because we all know how useful fluorescent colors are on the battlefield)
I’ve made these guys all they can be, and then some!

Inspired by the 900th time I heard Def Leppard's "God's of War" from the only cassette I had (yeah, I said cassette) the rockin 1987 Hysteria album.
He was once a typical green army man that I coated in electric blue glitter and mounted on a barrette with neon blue leopard grosgrain ribbon.
He's working so hard to keep us safe so I put him on a soft bed of blue marabou and gave him a couple of matching rhinestones...

Another army cutie. He's dusted in silver glitter and sits on camouflage grosgrain ribbon. He's an important guy so he gets 5 white rhinestones

Some I left alone. This brave boy is sitting au natural on a glitter grosgrain ribbon

SUNDAY DRIVE

Ah, the automobile. A necessary evil for most of us. It’s the lucky ones who truly fall in love with the mechanical horse and admire and appreciate their rides.
These clips are the most rockin and the coolest. I’ve snatched away the best of the model cars from my boys collection (trust me when I tell you they will not miss them) and I present them to you altered in a fantastic fashion. Wear these pups to your next car show and see how many boys flock to you…

DRINKIE POO

As a little girl, my sister and I would go to Florida twice a year to visit our grandparents. Each visit they would take us to this wonderful fancy schmancy restaurant that served our super duper grown up and ever classy Shirley Temples with cocktail monkeys on the rim. Heaven's to Betsy did I LOVE those monkeys. I would snatch them off the rim of everyone's glass and put them in my Hello Kitty purse for safe keeping.
As an adult whenever I throw a shindig at our shoebox of an apartment all my drinks have those fantastic Monkeys on them.
I have of course discovered that there is a whole community of drink hangers and I love them all as much as I love those Monkeys.
These lined Alligator clips are my nod to the fantastic creatures who have for so long kept our drinks festive.
